Have Your Say – Kettering Road Speed Limits (Ref: P2060)
Weldon Parish Council has formally objected to the proposed 50mph speed limit on sections of Kettering Road — and we are urging residents to take part in the public consultation and make their views known.
The Parish Council has received communications and concerns from residents regarding speed and safety of Kettering Road, Weldon (Woodland Park to the Household Waste Recycling Centre).
The proposed speed limit reduction does not reflect the reality of the road. This is not a rural through-route — it is a busy community corridor with:
Pedestrian accesses to Weldon Woodland Park
Cyclists and crossings linked to Magna Park and local routes
New and existing residential properties
Slow-moving buses, HGVs, and vehicles accessing local businesses
Regular queuing near the Household Recycling Centre, including on a blind bend
Setting a 50mph limit based mainly on predicted driver behaviour risks overlooking the safety of residents, pedestrians, cyclists, and other valuable road users.
National guidance is clear: speed limits should reflect the character of the road and its surroundings — not just current speeds.
Weldon Parish Council is calling for lower limits (30mph or less) that better match the environment and improve safety for everyone.
We need your support. The more responses submitted, the stronger the case for change.
